“Come,” He said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on water and came toward Jesus. – Matthew 14:29

Inside of each of us is a divine purpose that has been knit into our DNA by the hand of God while we were in our mother’s womb. God also placed within us many gifts to utilize in order to fulfill that purpose. During life’s journey it’s our choice is we sit on that purpose and watch while others take the courageous step out of the boat or we choose to be like Peter and take the brave step of faith ourselves into a God given destiny.

When you step out of the boat to pursue that inner calling it doesn’t mean that it’s going to be an easy walk. When Peter stepped out of the boat to walk toward Jesus he became distracted by the wind and lost sight of the vision as doubt emerged. However, Jesus was there to pick him up and walk with him on the water. God is looking for us to take that leap of faith, keep our eyes on Him, and when life’s winds begin to blow trials of doubt and fear know that He is there to walk beside us.

Lessons from Peter’s Walk on Water – Faith & Fear

  • Faith – Faith is the evidence of believing. Taking the first leap of faith unleashes a new dimension of strength to your journey and purpose. When you take that first step out of the boat, as Peter did, it reveals to God your commitment, dedication, and determination to pursue the greater vision. There was no way humanly possible that Peter could walk on water by himself. It had to be an act of God. The purpose God has placed inside of you may often feel humanly impossible but know it’s God possible.
  • Fear – Life will be life sometimes and the winds and waves will arise. But remember in the midst of the storm not to fear. When doubt arose, Peter begin to sink into the depths of the water. But when he did Jesus picked him up. Remember the vision is God’s, it is His purpose inside of you. In the tough moments remember to look up and allow Him to guide you. Allow the storm to make you stronger and more determined. Fear cannot stop determination!

What about you? Is there an area of your life that God is calling you to step out in faith? Are you currently sitting in the boat thinking about it and watching others pass you by? It’s time to be a water walker! Step out, keep your eyes on Him, and experience the incredible things He will do through your life!
